Bloggy Time for Robin

Happy 09/09/09!

It's been a while since I've blogged. I've been meaning to for a while, but our internet has been less than useful at home and I wanted to post some pictures of our "August Road Trip." So, here it finally is... although with fewer pictures than I hoped.

Since we last met (meaning my last blog), Robin and Tom have had many adventures. At the beginning of the month known as August, they took off in their trusty kiwi green Ford Focus to the land of Enchantment. (That is: New Mexico.) What? You don't think New Mexico is all that enchanting? Well, I didn't either. However, we were visiting Tom's aunt and uncle who live in Angel Fire. And I'm here to tell you, it's nothing like the desert picture inside my head. This was a small (tiny) town tucked away in this BEAUTIFUL mountain oasis.

Craig and Judy (the aforementioned aunt and uncle) were great. Both are retired military persons, and I couldn't get enough of their amazing stories. They definitely have lived extraordinary lives. We had a great time.

(Side note: The trusty Ford Focus was giving us problems... the tires were deflating on us... whatever happened to our heroes? More to come... Robin out.)

Tom with Uncle Craig and Aunt Judy:

Me, pretending to be all "New Mexico" while looking into the hotel room of Jesse James. (Yes, I'm cool.)

From New Mexico, we hopped back into the car (not literally) and were off to Chicago. We had initially planned on stopping in Omaha (somewhere in the middle of America), but somehow we never stopped. Bad idea. We just kept driving. For 24 hours. Seriously. Bad idea.

But we made it! Most of our trip in Chicago revolved around food. Tom was eager to share with me the cuisine of his childhood. Other than that, we were there to visit family, bring home some of Tom's stuff, and celebrate with Tom's sister, Kim, as she got married!

Tom's parents with Nick and Kim.

It was a beautiful wedding, and best of all... we got to dress like chickens. And by we, I mean Tom and me. Apparently, Kim was talking to the DJ a few days before the big day and the conversation went something like this:

Kim: Just don't play the chicken dance. I hate the chicken dance.

DJ: Okay... but wait just one moment. Let me show you something. You see, I have these two giant, full-sized chicken suits. We usually have someone dress up and lead the crowd. People love it.

Kim: Hmmmmmm....

DJ: Know anyone who'd be willing to dress up like a chicken?

Kim: Actually, yes.

That's when she called Tom. It was a lot of fun, and I need to get some pictures from Tom's mom.

The other highlight was getting to spend some time with our niece and nephew. They were born on St. Patty's Day. They are cute. Don't believe me? Well take a look for yourself:

Lilly:

Blake: (I'm totally his favorite aunt.)

We also celebrated Tom's birthday, which happened to be the same day as Kim's wedding. A fun-filled day to say the least.

So yeah, it was a great way to end the summer. Of course, driving home with a car full of Tom's stuff (OH! And new tires that Tom's parents bought us.... THANK YOU!) was less than fun. And as soon as we got home, work began.

But that's another story.

Next time.

Glad to see you back and to know that you are alive and well. You are the most totally "New Mexico" person I have EVER seen. Perhaps that pic should be on the bilbaord that welcome people to thier state. then everyone would think "This MUST be such a cool state, let's stay."
