In February, Tom and I headed out to Virginia. I was doing a choreographic residency at the University of Virginia, and we were lucky enough to take Tom with me. It was a fast and furious four days of rehearsals where I taught an 8 minute dance. I came as prepared as possible, but I had to make some last minute alterations. The dancers were dedicated, gracious, and fun. But sadly, they were not at the same level that I was used to with my dancers at BYU. With that said, however, they did a great job.
We spent some time walking around the campus of UVa. They have some strong ties with Thomas Jefferson, so the architecture is really fun. We kept seeing "Z" "21" and "imp" on all the buildings, stairs, etc. We thought it was funny and took some pictures. Later we learned that those are some codes for their secret societies. :)
I was trying to be an imp, obviously.
Tonight I am performing in RDT's Charette. It's a dance version of the "Iron Chef." There are five choreographers who are given a secret "ingredient" (theme, etc.) and then they have an hour to create a dance. During that time there is food and drink that has been donated from restaurants, and the audience is allowed to mingle and look around. They have guest judges and the audience gets to help pick the "Iron Choreographer." It should be fun.
I'm also getting really excited about my dance concert that a friend and I are producing this summer. I'm in the middle of getting contracts signed, insurance, etc. The concert is July 11th at the Rose Wagner Black Box Theatre. It's going to be a rocking good time. I'm excited to choreograph and perform.

All in all, life is really good. Tom and I are enjoying our time together (although we are definitely anxious to move out of the apartment and away from the noisy neighbors. Our goal is to be in a house by the end of the year.) We have been having fun cooking (for other people even!), playing games, and planning our future. Good things are definitely coming! (No, I'm not pregnant.)
